In 1997 Dickinson received a Grant from the Arkansas Arts Council for outstanding achievement in music composition. His other honors and awards include a BMI Award in 1990 for his Symphony for Wind Ensemble, and a grant from the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (German Academic Exchange Service) to study Composition at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen, Germany, 1992-1993. He has received several commissions, and has had performances of his works throughout the US, and in Germany. Paul Dickinson is now Assistant Professor of Music Theory and Composition at the University of Central Arkansas.
