Dr. Cort McClaren is Professor of Percussion Studi es at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and President of C. Alan Publications.  With a global list of composers in its catalog, C. Alan Publications holds a position of high esteem with music educators.

McClaren is the founder and Director of the National Conference on Percussion Pedagogy and chief editor of the Journal of Percussion Pedagogy.  Dr. McClaren frequently appears at music educators? conventions, presenting clinics on his ?Common Elements? approach to percussion pedagogy.  His innovative approach to percussion pedagogy is evident in his many articles in scholarly journals and his book, The Book of Percussion Pedagogy: A Step-by-Step Approach for Teachers and Performers.  He served as percussionist in the Oklahoma Symphony Orchestra, the Wichita Symphony Orchestra, the North Carolina Symphony, and principal percussionist with the Greensboro Symphony, the Rokoko Duette, and the New American Ragtime Ensemble.  After teaching several years in the Kansas public schools and before accepting his position at UNCG, he taught at The University of Oklahoma and Southwestern Oklahoma State University.  He earned the Ph.D. from The University of Oklahoma. 


Dr. Nathan Daughtrey, hailed as ?one of the leading voices on marimba,? has achieved international acclaim as a solo performer, composer, and educator.  Praised for his ?virtuosic facility and extraordinary musical sensitivity,? Dr. Daughtrey frequently appears in concert halls and universities throughout the United States and Europe, as well as with the North Carolina Symphony, the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra, and the Winston-Salem Symphony. 

Upon receiving his DMA in Percussion Performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, he was appointed Visiting Lecturer in Percussion in the UNCG School of Music.  His award-winning compositions include Episodes for Solo Piano, which won 1st Place in the 2000 Southeastern Composers? League Philip Slates Competition, and percussion ensemble works Limerick Daydreams and Adaptation, which won 2nd and 3rd Place in the 2005 Percussive Arts Society International Composition Contest.  As a proponent of new music, Dr. Daughtrey has premiered several works, including Gillingham's "Gate to Heaven" for marimba and percussion ensemble, McCarthy?s ?WarHammer? for marimba and electronics, and David J. Long?s ?Concerto for Marimba and Orchestra.?  In June 2002, Nathan traveled to Eastern Europe to record Emma Lou Diemer?s ?Concerto in One Movement for Marimba and Orchestra? with the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra.  He released his first solo marimba CD, Spiral Passages, in November 2001.  The second solo CD, Strange Dreams, features Nathan's original compositions and other pieces by Emma Lou Diemer, Daniel McCarthy, and David Gillingham, D r.
